The Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) invites students and families to explore innovative alternative education pathways through Alternative Education @ CHSS, through upcoming events designed to showcase the program’s unique hands-on learning and specialized skills training.
Starting in September 2025, CHSS will launch an expanded alternative education program tailored for students in Grades 11, 12, and 12+, featuring Enhanced Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) course bundles and the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) in sectors essential for workforce development. Fields of study will include Construction, Health and Wellness, Horticulture and Landscaping, Hospitality, Manufacturing, and Transportation, each offering real-world skill-building opportunities in state-of-the-art facilities like CHSS’s greenhouse, welding booths, autobody paint area, and commercial baking kitchen.

GRADE 10 TECH DAYS
CHSS is offering Grade 10 students the chance to explore these fields through interactive Tech Days, held from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm. These days include hands-on activities and a lunch information session (lunch is provided). Students interested in hands-on skilled trades education can experience these career-focused programs in action and learn about how to prepare for SHSM and OYAP opportunities.

November 20-21: Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute (CCVI)
November 27-28: Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute (GCVI) and John F. Ross Collegiate Vocational Institute
December 4-5: Erin District High School (EDHS) and Centre Wellington District High School (CWDHS)
