GUELPH, Ontario – The Upper Grand District School Board has released a draft of the Long Term Accommodation Plan (LTAP) Final Report.

The LTAP is a strategic review of the UGDSB’s facilities, population and enrolment projections to ensure that school facilities are aligned with the needs of the board and the communities it serves.

The LTAP does not include recommendations about changes to any school boundaries or programs. Instead, it outlines a list of proposed priorities for the short and long-term and a proposed work plan for future processes, such as boundary reviews or impact studies, to be undertaken.

The draft LTAP Final Report identifies a number of proposed short-term (1-5 years) priorities including:

  • Program review and boundary review for the new South Guelph secondary school. Before establishing a boundary for the new South Guelph secondary school and existing Guelph high schools, a top priority is to review high school programming in Guelph.

  • International Baccalaureate and French Immersion impact study in Orangeville/Dufferin and Erin. This process would study the potential impact of introducing French Immersion and the International Baccalaureate program at the secondary level in Orangeville/Dufferin.

  • Capital Priorities Request – Centre Wellington. It is proposed that the board request Capital Funding from the Ministry for a new elementary school in Northwest Fergus.

  • Program review of a Grade 7-12 school model. This review would consider the pros/cons and implementation issues associated with this type of school organization.

Proposed long-term (6-10 years) priorities include:

  • Capital Priorities Requests – Shelburne and Grand Valley. It is proposed that the board request Capital Funding for new elementary schools in Shelburne and Grand Valley to accommodate projected growth.

  • Capital Priorities Requests – Guelph. It is proposed that the board request Capital Funding for a new elementary school in South Guelph to accommodate projected growth.

Additionally, the LTAP enrolment information and priorities will be reviewed annually.

The board continues to invite public feedback throughout the LTAP process. Members of the public can review all documents and provide feedback online at LTAP. Five regional public meetings are scheduled in May. Attendees will hear a presentation on the draft LTAP Final Report and will have the opportunity to ask questions and provide input.
