This policy conveys the board’s commitment to supporting students with prevalent medical conditions, such as asthma, anaphylaxis, diabetes and epilepsy, to ensure they have full access to school in a safe, inclusive, and healthy environment. This includes fostering well-being and empowering students to manage their medical needs to the best of their ability.
The policy has been revised to include the responsibilities of all those involved as well as enhanced communications and training around a student’s Plan of Care. With a better understanding of their role in supporting students with prevalent medical conditions at school, parents/guardians, students, principals, school staff and health care practitioners can support the collaborative approach necessary for student safety.
This policy and its related procedures support the Upper Grand District School Board’s (UGDSB) Multi-Year Plan and the priorities of “champion health and well-being” and “equity of access and outcomes”.
