In celebration of International Women's Day (IWD), students from Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) secondary schools will attend Skills Ontario’s International Women’s Day Celebration Event on Thursday, March 6, 2025, in Guelph.
Due to the success of last year's event, students from College Heights SS, Centennial CVI, John F. Ross CVI, and Orangeville DSS will once again take part in this inspiring day focused on empowering young women in the skilled trades and technology sectors.
International Women's Day, celebrated annually on March 8, is a global movement that honors the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women while advocating for gender equality.
The Skills Ontario event will provide UGDSB students with the chance to explore skilled trades and technology careers through interactive, hands-on workshops led by skilled trades ambassadors. Students will participate in two rotating workshops, gaining valuable insights and practical experience.
UGDSB’s participation in this event is made possible through the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), which generously covered the registration fees, transportation costs, and supply teacher coverage for all participants.
In addition to the student-focused daytime event, an evening session will be held for parents, guardians, teachers, and guidance counsellors, providing further opportunities to learn about careers in skilled trades and technology.
