'Tis the Season to be F.R.O.S.T.Y.

Each year, John F. Ross CVI runs an amazing event called F.R.O.S.T.Y. (Friendly Royals Offering Stuff To Yuletide) to raise money for The Guelph Food Bank, Hope House, the John F. Ross Breakfast Program and Downtown Guelph Friends.

This event has run since every year since 1985, and every year there are new twists that challenge the school as a community to raise money and collect food and clothing for those in need.

During the season, many families struggle to make ends meet, and John F. Ross CVI students have set ambitious goals for this year’s F.R.O.S.T.Y. campaign. Royals proudly collected 244 Holiday Food Hampers for The Guelph Food Bank, over 3,000 additional food items for the John F. Ross Breakfast program, $1,000 to the John F. Ross Wellness Centre and $6,000 for Hope House.

An additional component of this fundraiser is building spirit in our school community. This year’ Homeroom winners, the top points winners, were Mr. Braithwaite’s Grade 11 Physics class and Ms. Sukhdeo’s Grade 9 Geography class.

Royals could not have achieved their goals without the help of the hundreds of Ross teachers and thousands of students all working together for an amazing common goal.

They were also fortunate to have Allen from Mike the Movers, who has been working with John F. Ross for many years, who helped load up all the donations. Ross, owner of Mike the Movers, graciously donated their truck, time and effort every year to help deliver all of the food hampers to the Guelph Food Bank.

This event was spearheaded by teachers Chantale Zongor (John F. Ross Alumni) and Ed Hicken, and the school’s Student Leadership class. Ms. Zongor said that she is continuously amazed by the generosity of the school and that she is so proud to be a part of this long-standing tradition.

She also said that they could not have accomplished this without the five hard working students who chose this event as their culminating project. Ewan P., Nikayla A., Briana B., Elisha G., and Alaina D. tirelessly to meet their targets and ensure that all Royals were able to get involved and learn the true meaning of the holidays

The event culminated with an assembly including a talent show on the last day. John Collins from Hope House was there to accept a $6,000 cheque.

John F. Ross would like to thank all our community members for their support and would like to wish all a very happy holiday season.
