Congratulations to Bridgit K. from Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute (GCVI) and Brodie O. from Wellington Heights Secondary School who recently triumphed in a baking competition at Conestoga College, securing a year’s free tuition in Culinary Management or Baking and Pastry Arts Management, along with a professional knife kit.

Reflecting on the experience, Brodie shared, “I never thought I would go into that competition and win! I was so happy and proud of me and my partner… I’m looking forward to continuing my culinary path.” He also expressed gratitude for the support from family, his partner, and Chef Sam, whom he described as “the best teacher I’ve ever had.”

Bridgit echoed the challenges and excitement, recalling, “During the competition, I recognized that my partner was struggling with the pressure, so I decided to take initiative and power through to bring us both to victory.” The win filled her with joy and disbelief, and she described her excitement for the future: “I hope to eventually own my own bakery or restaurant… and share my passion with as many people as possible.”

Both students attributed their success to meticulous preparation, support from family, friends, and instructors, and a commitment to their craft. Their story is one of determination and passion, highlighting the value of UGDSB’s Dual Credit Program and the pathways it opens for aspiring young chefs.
