GUELPH, Ontario – The Upper Grand District School Board is very pleased to share the news that the board has received notification from the City of Guelph about approval to proceed with the next steps in moving forward toward construction of the South Guelph Secondary School.
With moving forward with the Building Permit and Site Plan approval the UGDSB will remain on track with the intent to break ground this fall and open the new school in the 2026-2027 school year.
“I am excited that we have reached this milestone and we are all looking forward to breaking ground in the fall,” said UGDSB Chair, Ralf Mesenbrink.
“This is great news for Guelph secondary school families. We are thrilled we are able to move forward with next steps immediately,” said UGDSB Director of Education, Peter Sovran.
The new school, which is funded by the Government of Ontario, will aid in accommodating the forecasted enrolment growth from the new development in the area and alleviate current enrolment pressures from existing secondary schools in Guelph.
A boundary review for the new high school will commence imminently, beginning with communication sent to school communities. Details and a timeline of events in the boundary review process will be shared on the UGDSB website.
