GUELPH, ON – As we begin the new school year, the staff at the Upper Grand District School Board’s Terry James Resource Centre (TJRC) wanted to give you a refresher course on all things Terry James.
New staff should check out the TJRC website. The TJRC website offers information about the resource centre, the services offered and all resources. Resources include partnerships with different board departments and external organizations.
New staff or staff looking for a refresher can book a tour of TJRC or suggest a purchase for the centre’s collection using the quick links button on the homepage.
Staff are also reminded that there is a resource calendar available on the TJRC website. This calendar shares important dates and information.
As a reminder to returning staff and to new staff, the TJRC is open to all UGDSB staff. A reminder that no children are allowed to be in the resource centre. Staff on leave can still access some of the digital services the TJRC offers.
The TJRC is a fragrance aware facility. Due to medical reasons, if you’re visiting TJRC, do not wear cologne, perfume, or any other scented product when visiting.
Meet the TJRC team
TJRC is three departments in one – the Resource and Kit Libraries, the Media Centre, and the Cataloguing Centre
The Resource and Kit Libraries provide educators with access to responsive, relevant materials to support learning and classroom instruction – everything from professional resources and picture books to eBooks, audiobooks, and streaming videos. They also support staff with navigating Sora and other online resources, facilitating makerspace activities, and more. Contacts for the Resource and Kit Libraries are Erin Bloemberg (she/her) and Monique van Item (she/her).
The Media Centre is your planning playground – staff can come use the colour printers, laminators, paper cutters, and more. The space is set up for self-service access to the various machines and supplies, but staff are also available on site to provide guidance and support. If you aren’t able to come to the Media Centre in person, complete a request via the Google form – staff will provide you with supplies and/or support to complete your project. Staff contacts are Janice Wilken (she/her) and Teresa Clarke (she/her).
The Cataloguing Centre makes order from information chaos! They support elementary and secondary Learning Commons by making their books and other items more discoverable and accessible. This includes creating and modifying data in UGDSB’s library software to ensure the information provided about resources is accurate and relevant, which helps students and staff locate the items they need for classroom based learning and recreational reading. Staff contacts are Sandra Knapp (she/her), Sheri Herbert (she/her), Jennifer Henshaw (she/her), Kira Calvin (she/her), and Ali Klaver (she/her)
The Supervisor, Library & Media Services supports Learning Commons staff at all school sites, supervises the Terry James Resource Centre, and coordinates copyright compliance across the board (among other things). Any staff wishing to speak to the TJRC supervisor are asked to contact Lauren Bull (she/her).
