GUELPH, Ontario – The June meeting of the Upper Grand District School Board was held on June 27, 2018. The following provides highlights from the meeting.
Climate Survey
Staff presented highlights from the 2018 UGDSB School Climate Survey Report. The School Climate Survey is a bi-annual, board-wide survey that seeks input from students, parents/guardians and staff in the UGDSB. Response rates for the 2018 School Climate Survey rose in all participant groups compared to the previous survey.
Participants were asked questions on topics ranging from bullying, safety and inclusion to positive mental health, engagement and individual learning needs. Data from the survey will help inform school planning and evaluate the areas of school climate and inclusivity, student engagement, and student mental health and wellness.
Ontario Green Energy Reporting for 2016-17
Trustees received a report summarizing the board’s energy consumption and greenhouse gas emission data for the 2016-17 school year, as required by the Ontario Green Energy Act, 2009. Under Ontario Regulation 397/11, school boards are required to report energy consumption and greenhouse gas emission data annually and update their energy conservation plans every five years. The 2016-17 data will be made public on the board website and filed to the Ministry of Energy by July 1, 2018.
The 2016-17 report shows that the board’s energy usage and electricity consumption have continued to drop over the past several years. Throughout the year, staff use this data and work diligently to review the board’s performance, identify equipment failures, review Maintenance and Operations practices and identify future energy upgrade projects.
