GUELPH, ON – November 19 to 25, 2023 is Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week. Each year, Ontario designates the week beginning on the third Sunday of November as Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week (BAPW) to help promote safe schools and a positive learning environment.

During BAPW, Ontario students, school staff and parents/guardians are encouraged to learn more about bullying and its effect on student learning and well-being.

The Upper Grand District School Board is committed to creating a school climate that promotes a healthy and inclusive space where students and staff feel safe.

As a school community, it is important to stop bullying as quickly as possible, as bullying impacts everyone involved including the students who receive it, deliver it and witness it.

This week and always, let’s continue to look for the signs that a child may be being bullied including a child who does not want to go to school, complains of recurring physical symptoms, is experiencing disrupted sleeping and eating habits, loss of interest in activities, acting differently and more.

If your child is bullying others, it is important to help your child understand what bullying is and its negative impact on others and themselves.

For a parent/guardian who is dealing with a bullying incident there are many resources on the UGDSB website to support you and your child/ren.

Don’t forget that the UGDSB has a Bullying Reporting tool available on the website.
