This year, the Upper Grand District School Board (UGDSB) partnered with Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health to offer a student mental health leadership opportunity to Upper Grand secondary schools.
The pilot took place at Guelph CVI and Orangeville DSS and was an opportunity for schools to bring youth together in leadership around mental health in their schools. Students were supported to do a walk about and identify unique priorities for their buildings and then engage in activities and projects to address the identified priority.
Educators and administrators supporting the pilot in these schools all completed the Community Resilience Coalition Training Promoting Mentally Healthy Schools and Resilience: Strategies for Educators – this module aims to equip educators with information and strategies to support mentally healthy schools and promote resilience among students.
