students and teachers with a scholarship sign

Guelph, ON — Congratulations to the Upper Grand District School Board’s Beyond Borders program, which managed to raise over $30,000 to the Guelph General Hospital (GGH) during the last school year and thousands more for other local and global charities.

Many of the UG students returned to Guelph from their post-secondary studies and ventures to be recognized and recognize one another for all their hard work at a ceremony held at GGH last month.

As the sun shone over the courtyard, Mark Walton, President and CEO of GGH addressed the students, “It’s inspiring to us as a community to know that young people want to give back”, he said.

Over the years, the leadership program has allowed students to collaborate on and develop community-minded initiatives while developing their own leadership styles.

“Year after year, the Beyond Borders Program is the largest community fundraiser,” said Julie Byczynski, CEO of The Foundation of GGH.

At the ceremony many of the students shared how much the program taught them as well as shared their career plans for the future.
