This policy conveys the board’s commitment to the environment and sustainability through both education and action. The policy has been revised with a new name that better reflects the focus of the board's efforts, an updated policy statement that speaks to the board's commitments, including the maintenance of an action plan with system-wide sustainability goals and initiatives, and a new section that identifies eight (8) sustainability priority areas for the board's operations, which will directly link with the action plan.

This policy is important to students, staff, school councils, parents/guardians, and members of the local community because enhancing everyone's knowledge and skills in environmentally responsible practices is essential for effective stewardship and long-term sustainability .
