Literacy Test
Literacy Test
Each year the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) conducts the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT). The OSSLT measures whether students are meeting the minimum standard for literacy across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9. Successful completion of the literacy test is one of the requirements to earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma and graduate.
This year, Westside students will once again have an opportunity to write the Literacy Test in the semester in which they are taking English. Our Fall administration of the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT), for students enrolled in English semester 1, will be taking place in November 2024. Students with English in their timetable in semester 2 will write in Spring 2025 instead.
Grade 10's:
Grade 10 students who have English semester 1 are scheduled to write as follows:
Tuesday, November 26, 2024 (booklet 1) and
Wednesday, November 27, 2024 (booklet 2), in their English class.
Additional time will be provided for any student who requires it.
Grade 11 and 12's:
Grade 11 and 12 students may also need to write the OSSLT if they did not write it in grade 10 or if they were unsuccessful on their previous attempt. These students will also write the test in the semester in which they have English. Semester 1 test writers will write both booklets on November 26, 2024 at 8:50 am in the Library Learning Commons. These students should report to the Learning Commons first thing that morning.
EQAO has provided a practice test for students to become familiar with the online test and its platform. For more information about EQAO and to access the full practice test, please visit the EQAO website www.eqao.com
Results from the Fall OSSLT are expected to be available by the end of January 2025.
