What is LEAF?

At Norwell District Secondary School our goal is to engage students in the best learning opportunities possible. Given the importance of agriculture in our area we feel it is important to engage our students in agricultural education and connect them to their community.

LEAF stands for Local, Environmental, Agriculture, and Food.  Hands-on learning will be the focus of LEAF. Students will learn through engaging experiences such as growing their own food in the garden and greenhouse, cooking and eating local food, and making connections between agriculture and the environment.

At the core of the LEAF program is community partnerships. Our goal is to connect with farmers and agriculture business leaders using the Norwell area as our community classroom. We envision weekly field trips to local farms and agriculture businesses where students will meet and interact with farmers, discuss education and career pathways in agriculture, and experience the diversity and innovation of agriculture in our area.

To complete the journey from farm to fork the LEAF program will use locally produced food to cook nutritious meals. This will show students that supporting local agriculture is good for their own health as well as the health of their community.

We are excited to connect with our community and offer this unique program to our students. If you would like more information about this program please contact us.

If you have any questions, please contact our Guidance department at 519-343-3107 ext.332.
