CDDHS Remembers 2024

This year CDDHS designed a Remembrance Walk that began on Monday, November 4th, as the week leading up to Remembrance Day is officially Veterans’ Week. The Lion’s Hall was transformed into a place where students participated in a remembrance walk with the theme, “Remembering Together - Past and Present”.

On the Remembrance Walk, students reflected on the sacrifices made by people who served. They were encouraged to recognize a Veteran by writing a message of thanks and appreciation to show their gratitude or by writing about how they will remember the sacrifices and achievements of Canada’s Veterans.

The Affinity Groups at CDDHS created Remembrance Day boards. Students learned and then proceeded to the foyer to check out the front display case, and ended by placing their poppy on the paper beside our Wall of Honour.

As students placed their poppies on the paper, a quiet sense of unity filled the space. Each poppy, a simple symbol, represented more than just a gesture; it was a tangible acknowledgment of the countless sacrifices made by Canada's Veterans, both past and present. The Remembrance Walk allowed everyone to pause and reflect—whether through heartfelt messages of thanks, moments of silence, or by engaging in discussions sparked by the powerful displays created by the Affinity Groups.

As the walk concluded, students and staff alike were reminded that remembrance is not just an annual event, but a lifelong commitment to understanding the value of sacrifice, the cost of freedom, and the responsibility to ensure these stories are never forgotten. Through the thoughtful reflections, the meaningful displays, and the shared moments of silence, CDDHS showed that together, we can remember, honour, and continue to build a future grounded in gratitude and respect for our Canadian Armed Forces.
