2024-2025 EQAO Literacy Test Information

OSSLT 2024-2025 Writing Windows:

Semester 1 Dates: Tuesday, November 19 and Thursday, November 21

Semester 2 Dates: Tuesday, April 1 & Thursday, April 3; Tuesday, April 8 & Wednesday, April 9

The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) is a mandatory provincial standardized test, typically taken in grade 10, that assesses a student’s reading and writing skills. Success in the OSSLT or completion of the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course is a graduation requirement. Students will have access to a Chromebook on the day of their test and will be provided with as much time as is needed. Phones and personal devices are prohibited during the test.

Grade 10 students will complete the OSSLT in the semester when they have English class. They will write the OSSLT with their English teacher on a designated date within the writing window for that semester. Students with IEPs will meet with a member from Student Services to discuss accommodation needs prior to the test. Practice resources will be provided by the teacher ahead of time. All students can also access additional reading and writing materials for the test through our school website, under the “Students” tab. Additionally, there is an Online Practice Test that students can take through the EQAO website.

Grade 10 students who were unsuccessful during the Semester 1 testing window have been contacted for next steps. Please check your email or contact Jessica Morris, Literacy Lead.

Grade 11 and 12 students who still need their Literacy Requirement will meet with a member from the Student Services team to arrange a writing session date or to enroll in the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course. Grade 11 and 12 students who are (re)writing the OSSLT this year will do so in Semester 2 and will be invited to a Literacy Test Prep workshop by Jessica Morris, Literacy Lead.
