Why take Construction Technology?

The construction/woodworking industry is always looking for competent, skilled trades people. From this course, you will take away valuable skills that could lead to college, an apprenticeship,  full time employment or even running your own business.

Construction Technology Courses

Grade 9

TCJ1O: Students will learn imperial measurements and the safe use of hand tools and power tools. These will be used to design and build projects out of wood.

Grade 10

TCJ2O: Students review measuring and the safe use of hand tool and power tools. They apply these skills to develop prototypes for the processes used in the residential construction industry. Foundations to roofs and an introduction to residential wiring are covered.

TCJ2OX: This is an open course for girls only that includes auto and construction. They will learn basic car maintenance, repair and bodywork. In the wood shop, they learn furniture building techniques as well as basic home maintenance and repairs such as framing, drywall, and electrical.

Grade 11

TCJ3C/E: Students will expand their skills in framing, electrical, plumbing, roofing, drywalling, and blueprint reading. As a class, we explore community projects to construct and develop our skill-set.

TWJ3E: Students construct various wood joints with hand tools and power tools. They apply their knowledge and skills on five different woodworking projects throughout the semester. Students also further develop their finishing techniques of staining and painting.

Grade 12

TCJ4C/E: Students will expand their skill-sets acquired from the grade 11 course by sourcing community construction projects (sheds,fences, etc). They then design and fabricate these projects. Some projects are also rebuilt on site. Prerequisite TCJ3C

TWJ4E: This is a project based course where students design and build their own projects and/or take orders from the community and design and build custom furniture.(muskoka chairs, picnic/ping-pong tables, benches, etc)
