World Down Syndrome Day has been recognized each year on March 21st since 2007. The 21st day of March (the 3rd month of the year) was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome which causes Down Syndrome. Every year on March 21st, World Down Syndrome Day is observed to create awareness about Down Syndrome - the condition in which a child is born with an extra 21st chromosome. A common activity to commemorate this special day is wearing colourful or mismatched socks, to show support for people with Down Syndrome. Thanks to all of our Wolverines who put on their most colourful, unique, or mismatched socks on March 21st to show support for our Wolverines who are impacted by Down Syndrome!
