2024-2025 School Council Elections

On behalf of the members of Victoria Cross PS’s School Council, we would like to invite you to be a part of the 2024-2025 School Council Election.  We are fortunate to be a part of a dynamic, creative, and diverse school community.  With the Principal, Vice-Principal, a school staff member, and members of the community, your School Council works toward improving and expanding our children’s learning environment.  Come and share in the education of our children!

School Council positions are held for one-year terms.  If a new person is not nominated for a position, the current School Council member in that position will remain in place if they agree.

Positions up for Election

The following positions are up for election/nomination:

  • Chair

  • Vice Chair

  • Secretary

  • Treasurer

Executive Officers

Chair/Vice-Chair

  • Preside at all meetings of Council

  • Provide administrative leadership through the preparation of agendas, reports, budget and correspondence

  • Provide leadership in the establishment of working committees, support positions and strategic planning

  • Serve as the spokesperson for the Council

  • Serve as an authorized signatory for Council business

  • Prepares the meeting agendas in consultation with school Administration

Secretary

  • Record minutes of all Council meetings

  • Record attendance at all Council meetings

  • Ensure a record of all Council documentation is maintained, and distributed/posted as appropriate

  • Prepare correspondence on behalf of the Council

  • Maintain a database of contact information for Council Members, and any parents who have elected to provide it each year (ensure permission of use is current)

Treasurer

  • Maintain records of all financial activities relating to the Council

  • Provide financial reports at Council meetings and for the Annual Report

  • Develop an annual budget

  • Serve as an authorized signatory on any Council financial matters

Nominations are due by 4pm on Monday, September 23rd, 2024.  Nominees will be shared on the school’s website the following Monday, September 30th, 2024.  Nominees will be contacted prior to information being shared on the school’s website.

Elections

Voting will take place Tuesday, October 1st to Thursday, October 3rd at 4:00pm via ballot sent home - one ballot per household.  

New School Council positions will be shared Monday, October 7th by 4:00pm.


First School Council Meeting:  Thursday, October 10th at 6:30pm in the Learning Commons/Library.
