The Great Big Crunch is back this year! Rockwood Centennial Nutrition Program is providing apples (and bananas for those with braces) so that our school can participate. The Great Big Crunch (GBC) is an event founded by FoodShare and coordinated by the Coalition for Healthy School Food to raise awareness of the importance of healthy food at school. The GBC is a national movement and annual moment of anti-silence in which students, teachers, parents and others passionate about food crunch into apples (or other crunchy fruit or vegetable) to make noise for healthy school food. Our Great Big Crunch takes place April 3rd!
We have a parent engagement session -April 15. Please see the attached invitation for an evening session for parents and guardians about anti bullying and inclusion. The co-author of Stop the Hate Dr. Larry Schwartz will be speaking. As a staff, we are reading this book and learning about how to teach our students about respect, diversity and inclusion. Please fill out the attached link for parents if attending the April 15th session so we have an idea of numbers as snacks will be provided. https://forms.gle/vgKZHutFYsf3HEFbA
Student Vote 2025: Federal Election Edition - Friday, April 25: Student Vote is back! With a Federal snap election set for April 28th, M. Agro has once again enrolled our school in this exciting mock election initiative. Student Vote is run by Civix, a nation-wide charity organization that helps Canadian schools run student elections that mirror Federal/Provincial elections. They provide all the materials (official-looking ballots, ballot boxes) plus educational resources to help teachers introduce concepts and facilitate discussions in class. All students in grades 4-8 will have the chance to participate in the mock election and to learn about the election process via in-class learning. Additionally, interested student volunteers can speak with M. Agro to sign up to be part of the election team and help facilitate the day. If you have any questions, please contact M. Agro.
