Hello RCPS Families,

We hope that you had a wonderful weekend!

We lucked out with the great weather for the Terry Fox walk/run through the Conservation area on Friday and students enjoyed the opportunity to go through the conservation forest on a walk/run.

Pizza  Days– At our recent council meeting we discussed that we make significant proceeds from our pizza program. Thanks to your contributions and support we are able to provide educational programs and resources for our students.  We will continue with Gino’s pizza offering a great variety of items including gluten free pizza, vegan pizza, and breadsticks.

We want to ensure that all students have the opportunity to enjoy pizza days. You will see a donation in SchoolCash online  for food programs. If you wish to make a donation to support a child who doesn’t receive pizza or other food programs, please click here. Your donation will be applied to support our students. If we receive an overwhelming response, the funds will be donated to another food program within our school to support students.

We ask that any parents who want to participate in our pizza program and find the cost a financial barrier, please let the school know by replying to this email or email their child’s teacher indicating you want your child to participate and what they would like. For ex 2 cheese, 1 pepperoni or 2 turkey.  Our goal is to continue raising funds to support educational programs and resources while keeping equity in mind for all students to benefit and enjoy pizza days. Everyone should get a piece of the pie!

If you are interested in helping with pizza, please contact our School Council chair  Bianca Chambers at biancawarkus@gmail.com.

At our recent School Council meeting, the following were elected:

We look forward to meeting everyone this Thursday, September 27th at our Open House from 5:30pm-7:00pm.  Please check out our front wall that displays posters created in classrooms based on discussions and conversations about what a safe and inclusive school looks like, feels like and sounds like. The students created amazing posters that will be displayed for you. We look forward to meeting our new families and welcoming back all of our families.

 Cross Country meet volunteers needed:

Tuesday, Oct. 8 -11:00-1:30

Wednesday, Oct. 9 – 9:30 – 11:30 and 12:00 – 1:40

This would involve stopping traffic where the routes cross roads. Volunteers need to have an updated vulnerable sector screening on file with the school. If you require a letter to get a vulnerable sector screening through the local OPP, please contact the office and speak with Mrs. Aziz.  If you are interested in helping out, please contact Mrs. Clyde.

Truth and Reconciliation Week:

This week, we recognize Truth and Reconciliation Week, a time to learn about the history and legacy of residential schools, the experiences of Indigenous peoples, and the ongoing journey towards healing and justice. It’s an important opportunity to reflect on our shared history and consider how we can contribute to a more inclusive and respectful future. Throughout the week, there will be various activities, resources, and discussions in classes to help us deepen our understanding and honor the survivors, their families, and communities. We encourage all students to participate, listen, and learn.

September 30 is observed annually as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This day honors the children who never returned home from residential schools, as well as the Survivors, their families, and communities. Recognizing the tragic history and ongoing impact of residential schools is an essential part of our reconciliation journey. RCPS remains committed to fostering understanding and supporting healing through resources that center Indigenous voices and knowledge. Please see the attached letter from our Board regarding this week.
