Purpose of the School Council

The purpose of the Council is to work cooperatively with school administration and staff to advance and improve the student experience at Laurelwoods Elementary School, in partnership. with the active engagement of the parent/guardian community.

We do this in two ways:

  1. Financial Support:The Council will collaborate to enhance the financial resources and revenue streams available to our school, in alignment with the Ontario curriculum, thus contributing to the education of students.

  2. Active Parent / Guardian Involvement:The Council will actively encourage and facilitate parent/guardian engagement through volunteer activities aimed at fostering strong family connections within the LES school community, ultimately contributing to the education of our students.

Together, as a dedicated team, we will work to ensure a high quality of education for the children at LES.

CORE AREAS OF FOCUS / DECISION MAKING
Whole-school impact: Wherever possible, activities and programs organized, supported, or funded by the Council will aim to impact and benefit as many pupils as possible. Agriculture and agri-food: Our school community lives and works within the rural agricultural community. With that in mind, programs and enhancements that can help break down barriers, further engage, or provide unique opportunities connected with agriculture and agri-food industries will be prioritized and supported, where possible, at our school. Health and well-being: Promoting the healthy development of all students, as well as identifying pathways for students to reach their full potential, is a priority for educators across Ontario. A well-rounded educational experience prioritizes well-being and academic success by promoting physical and mental health, social-emotional learning, and inclusion. Programs that offer these unique opportunities to support pupil and family well-being will be a core area of focus for the Council.

We look forward to working together to make this school year a success. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or require further information.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement.
