Learning Facts

There are basic facts that students must know before they solve for other facts. These are considered the foundational facts. Foundational facts should be learned through understanding number relationships and meaningful practice. Some examples of teaching number relationships include discussion around dot talks, Rekenreks, 5-or 10-frames, etc. These then can lead students to learning + or - 0, 1, 2. Students need to know their 10 pairs (all the pairs of numbers 0-10 that make ten). This is a crucial foundation for students to master.
