The Upper Grand District School Board recently adopted a new policy on Admissions and Registration. One of the things that this policy lays out is the new process for Out of Area (OOA) and Out of District (OOD) attendance.
Important changes to the process for OOA/OOD attendance:
Moving forward, the board will maintain a list of schools that are either ‘open’ or ‘closed’ to new OOA/OOD registrations.
Schools are reviewed each year and the list is updated and posted prior to the December break.
Only schools designated as ‘open’ for the coming school year can accept new OOA/OOD registrations.
New OOA/OOD registrations can only be submitted during a limited period of time during the month of January.
New OOA/OOD registrations must be completed by the last Friday in January (January 31, 2025)
Beginning in the 2025-26 school year, students registering at a school that is OOA or OOD may remain at the OOA/OOD school until completion of grades at that school, rather than having to reapply every year.
Current OOA/OOD students who have already been approved for the 2024-2025 school year will be contacted by their school to be given the option to stay at their current school for the remainder of the grades at that school.
Transportation is NOT provided for OOA or OOD students.
Students are encouraged to attend their home school, as all UGDSB schools have amazing opportunities for students and for learning. We encourage students to attend their designated home school but do understand that there may be situations that lead to a request for students to attend a different school.
The list of ‘open’ and ‘closed’ schools to new OOA/OOD registrations is posted on the board website.
Steps for families:
Families interested in having their child/student register to attend a school other than their designated home school starting in the 2025-2026 school year must complete a registration form at a school designated as ‘open’ to OOA/OOD in January, prior to end of day on January 31, 2025.
Following the registration period in January of 2025, all schools are closed to new OOA/OOD registrations. The next opportunity for OOA/OOD registrations is January, 2026, based on schools that are designated as ‘open’ at that time.
Schools designated as ‘closed’ do not accept OOA/OOD registrations.
