EJPS Week at a Glance (Dec 16-20 & Jan 6-10)

Chers parents,

It was such a pleasure to see so many of you at our EJ Holiday Extravaganza 2024 and at our EJ School Council Coffee House this past Wednesday. Thank you to our Chair, Natasha Papadedes, for hosting our annual parent social between presentations and keeping the coffee hot! Above all, it was inspiring to see your children participate as presenters and performing artists. Also, a special shout out to all the teachers for getting our students ready to perform. The high quality of the event would not have been possible without the leadership of our Extravaganza Organizer, Grade 3\4 teacher, Nancy Anselmini-Lofton, and her class and some grade 6 students for the concert hosting, coordination and tech support.

The next five days will carry on with learning and some fun activities as we transition into the Winter Break which starts on Dec 23rd and ends on January 5th. We will have five Spirit Days in a row to build up to the start of holidays.

  • Monday December 16: Cozy sweater day

  • Tuesday December 17th: Wear a pattern day

  • Wednesday December 18th: Wear a hat day

  • Thursday December 19th: Winter wonderland day! Dress in your favourite festive colour combinations

  • Friday December 20th: PJ day!

In other news, it has been very cold these last couple of days. Please send your children with appropriate attire. Additionally, staff will encourage and ensure students who come to school with snow pants to wear them outside. Please encourage your child to follow our lead on this and to avoid getting into negotiations about wearing snowpants or not. Being in appropriate attire is a matter of safety when it comes to frigid temperatures

Speaking of safety, this coming Tuesday, Dec 17th we will be having a lockdown drill in the morning part of the day. Staff will follow the school board’s lockdown procedures. A member of the GPS and I will check to see that the procedures are being followed and offer feedback if necessary. Students will be told in advance that morning on the announcements and be given instructions on how to perform the drill. To ease any anxieties, I will use the hypothetical scenario of a scared baby deer getting into the school and that we are staying clear and helping keep the deer calm until he can be rescued and taken back into his natural environment. The drill lasts about 3-5 minutes. Generally, students understand how this drill keeps everyone safe and it is a good idea to practice them regularly. If you feel the need to, please discuss with your child that this drill will be occurring and how it is helpful. Moreover, if you have any concerns that the drill might trigger distress in your child please contact your child’s teacher so support can be put in place..
