EJPS Week at a Glance (Sep 16-20)
Chers parents,
We just finished our first eight days of school and your child’s learning journey is off to a great start. Thank you for all you do in supporting their learning and working in partnership with your child’s teacher. If you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to contact them directly. As you have read in my previous email messages, classroom organizations are temporary until they are approved by the District Staffing Committee in the second week of school. This year, we had to move 11 students and ten out of twelve classes were impacted. It was by no means an easy task, however, through teamwork and cooperation by staff, students, and parents our new classes will be up and running as of this coming Monday. We believe that each of these classroom communities are well balanced and will help all children bloom. Thank you everyone for your trust and support!
In other news, we are still having difficulty filling our third noon hour supervisor position. This position can be shared by multiple people. Even if any folks can cover 2 to 3 slots per week that would be helpful. The slots are 10:10 to 10:50 and 12:30 to 1:10. If interested, please apply by contacting the school. It takes a village!
Our school will be participating in the Terry Fox Walk again this year on Friday September 20th during the middle block. In the event of inclement weather, our rain date will be Monday September 23rd. We will be completing our walk throughout the neighbourhood community. We would like to encourage all students to help raise funds for this worthy cause. Did you know that in the 25+ years that EJ has participated in the Terry Fox run, that we have raised an incredible $26,775.80?! Wow! Let's keep our momentum going!
Last year we raised an amazing $3,649.20! This year, our school goal is $3,724. “Toonies for Terry” on the day of the walk are always gratefully accepted, however, please consider donating via our secure school fundraising website: https://schools.terryfox.ca/EdwardJohnsonPSGuelph

Please ensure that your child has comfortable walking shoes and is dressed for the weather on our walk date. We are encouraging students to wear RED, in honour of Terry Fox as a Canadian hero.

If you would like to volunteer throughout the school year PLEASE, sign and return the UGDSB Volunteer Agreement and forward the email with your Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC), from City of Guelph Police or OPP. We do have some from years past. Your VSC is valid for up to 5 years at which time you would need to apply for a new one.
There are cameras around the exterior and throughout the school hallways which act as deterrents to those thinking about damaging our school property as well as evidence in case we need to investigate any issues. You will notice there are stickers on our school doors indicating that there is video surveillance.
Finally, I wanted to remark that during the month of September there are many days of significance. As your community school we’d like to recognize how important those days are to our families from diverse backgrounds. Days marked with an asterisk (*) indicate that the observance begins at sundown of the preceding day and continues until sundown of the day listed. Days marked with two asterisks (**) indicate that the observance may vary based on moon sightings that indicate the start of observance.
Date | Observance | Faith |
August 26 | Sri Krishna Jayanti | Hinduism |
August 31 | Paryushana-parva (begins) | Jainism |
September 8 | Paryushana-parva (ends) | Jainism |
September 30 | National Day for Truth and Reconciliation | Indigenous |
Thank you for another excellent week. Enjoy the wonderful warm weather this weekend!
