Hello Arbour Vista families,
We hope you had a great weekend and that this message finds you all in good health and high spirits. Please see the important updates below.
PICTURE DAY
Picture Day is on October 23rd! Each student will have their individual photo taken, and composite pictures will be arranged to create a class photo. Don’t forget to wear your smile!
*Picture retakes: November 20, 2024 (AM only)
HALLOWEEN
Our school will celebrate Halloween with a costume dress-up day and/or black and orange attire. We kindly ask parents to consider the comfort and practicality of the costumes, as students will be wearing them all day. If your child chooses to wear a costume, please have them come to school in it. Additionally, it’s a good idea to have regular clothes on hand, as they may need to change part way through the day. Your child’s teacher will communicate any class-specific activities as needed.
If your child(ren) will not be participating in Halloween, please inform their teacher, and alternate activities will be provided.
Costume Guidelines:
It’s important that costumes do not use identities or cultures inappropriately. This includes avoiding cultural stereotypes, black/brown face, transphobic themes, body-shaming costumes, and those that make light of harmful situations (e.g., the COVID pandemic). Such costumes can perpetuate stereotypes and harm community members.
Additional Notes:
Accessories should stay at home.
Please do not bring masks
We ask that students not share candy, drinks, or treats; however, they may bring a treat for themselves in their lunch.
Please remember that costumes should not be scary, as we have young students who may be frightened.
Be sure to clearly label your child’s costume with their name.
Thank you for your cooperation!
DANCE-A-THON KICK OFF ASSEMBLY
A big thank you to the School Council, who have arranged to have Professor Jamz back to Arbour Vista. The kick off assembly will take place on October 22 and pledge envelopes will be coming home. All funds raised will go towards offsetting the cost of our DancEd Residency which begins at the end of November.
BYLAW
Please remember to exercise caution when crossing in front of the school. We advise parents and students to use the crosswalk with a crossing guard. Bylaw enforcement has been present to ensure student safety and the safety of drivers.
GUELPH FOOD BANK
The grade 8's have expressed that they would like to share some Arbour Vista school spirit and come together as a community to support our local food bank in replenishing some items during the Fall season. Over the course of next week (Oct.21-24) we encourage students to bring in non-perishable food items:
Our school will acknowledge our contributions and share our Viper Spirit on Thursday October 24 with a student vs. student football game and Pep Rally during period 4 (11:40-12:20). Students are encouraged to wear school colors, make Viper posters and support those in need in our community. Let's go Vipers!
